Why stories matter
Stories have always been my way of making sense of the world — a way to process the noise, the beauty, and everything in between. Whether it’s a curious child finding courage in a hallway adventure, or an adult rediscovering themselves through mystery and reflection, stories remind us that healing often begins with imagination. I’ve come to believe that storytelling is its own kind of therapy — a gentle mirror that shows us both who we are and who we might become.
The two sides of storytelling
My creative life exists in two worlds. In one, I write for children — through Short Journeys Storytime, a series that celebrates courage, curiosity, and kindness. These short tales were born out of my desire to create meaningful moments for kids (and parents) to connect — even in just three minutes. In the other world, I write for adults — through reflective essays, mindfulness pieces, and the quiet suspense of mystery fiction. Those stories explore the deeper corners of emotion: fear, growth, and transformation.
At first, I thought these two paths were completely different.
But over time, I realized they share the same purpose — healing through connection.
What storytelling teaches us about healing
Writing has taught me that healing doesn’t always look like a breakthrough.
Sometimes it looks like laughter in the middle of uncertainty. Sometimes it’s the courage to imagine something better. And sometimes, it’s the simple act of listening — to a story, to ourselves, to each other.
When a child learns bravery through Harper’s adventures, they’re learning resilience. When an adult reads a mystery that explores grief or growth, they’re processing emotion through empathy. That’s the beauty of story: it lets us feel safely.
Creativity as care
Every story I write — whether for a reader, a listener, or even myself — carries the same intention: to care. To care about how we see the world, how we treat ourselves, and how we connect to others. It’s why Doyen By Nature exists — to give space to creative care. To remind us that the art we make, the music we play, the stories we tell… all of it becomes a form of wellness when it’s rooted in honesty and kindness.
An invitation to imagine
If you’ve ever felt lost or disconnected, I hope you’ll find a story that meets you where you are. Because stories — whether for children or adults — have a quiet way of whispering: You’re not alone. Here at Doyen By Nature, I’ll continue sharing both — the whimsical and the wise, the light and the deep — because we all need both kinds of stories to stay whole. So, here’s to storytelling as a gentle kind of healing — one page, one melody, one small adventure at a time.
